Regular Curriculum
▸ The regular curriculum of the Korean Language Education Center consists of four semesters a year. Each semester provides 200 hours of lectures for 10 weeks.
▸ The curriculum has a total of six stages. It takes around one and a half years to complete all the stages.
▸ If you complete Stage 4, you can communicate in Korean without inconveniences in your daily life. Once you complete Stage 6, you can speak Korean fluently.

Curriculum by Stage
Stage 1 | Those who have no knowledge of the Korean language at all |

① Students focus on developing their basic communication skills.
② Students read, write, and pronounce Hangeul.
③ Students practice basic speaking and listening.
④ Students learn the most basic Korean language required for their daily life. (Greetings, self-introduction, shopping, ordering food, making a promise, etc.)
⑤ Students develop their ability to adapt to Korea through the basic understanding of Korean culture.

Stage 2 | Those who have completed 200 hours of Korean language education or have equivalent Korean language skills |
① Students develop their communication skills so that they can respond to a variety of daily situations (grocery stores, banks, and bookstores).
② Students develop their ability to adapt to Korea through the basic understanding of Korean people’s way of thinking and Korean culture.
③ Students can understand basic sentence structures including short sentences and compound sentences.
④ Students can fill in a simple form and write sentences required for their daily life.

Stage 3 | Those who have completed 400 hours of Korean language education or have equivalent Korean language skills |
① Students have no difficulty speaking about everyday subjects and expressing their feelings.
② Students can understand a variety of mass media such as newspapers and TV programs to some degree. With their Korean language skills, they can live in Korea without difficulty.
③ Students can read and understand simple writings of many different topics. They also can write short paragraphs.

Stage 4 | Those who have completed 600 hours of Korean language education or have equivalent Korean language skills |
① Students develop their Korean language skills so that they can understand and express different topics such as politics, economy, society, and culture as well as everyday topics. ② Students develop their Korean language skills so that they can speak proper Korean, distinguishing between formal and informal situations and colloquial and literary styles. ③ Students learn to read short essays, newspaper articles, etc. |

Stage 5 | Those who have completed 800 hours of Korean language education or have equivalent Korean language skills |
① Students are able to use Korean language skills required for researches and work in professional fields to some degree. ② Students are able to understand unfamiliar topics of many different fields including politics, economy, society, and culture. ③ Students are able to use proper Korean, distinguishing between formal and informal situations and colloquial and literary styles. ④ Students can communicate in Korean without any inconveniences in their daily life. In addition, they learn discussion on many different topics. |

Stage 6 | Those who have completed 1,000 hours of Korean language education or have equivalent Korean language skills |
① Students are able to understand professional contents including general and academic contents. ② Students are able to understand and use expressions about unfamiliar topics of many different fields including politics, economy, society, and culture. ③ Students are able to use the Korean language’s unique expressions and terminologies. ④ Even though students cannot speak Korean like native speakers, they have no difficulty using their functional language skills and expressions. |
※ The Korean Language Education Center is operating TOPIK II Special Class for undergraduate students, exchange students, and language students.
TOPIK Preparation Course
Program Period
▸ Spring/Autumn Semester : Total of 7 weeks (28 hours)
- Monday & Wednesday: 6:00pm-8:00pm (4 hours for 2 weeks)
- Tuesday & Thursday: 6:00pm-8:00pm (4 hours for 2 weeks)
▸ Summer/ Winter Term : TOPIK II Writing Course
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 14:00-16:00 (one class consists of 4 hours, 2 weeks, The day of week will be changed every week)

▸ CUK undergraduate students, exchange students, and language students
